VOLUNTEERING SUSPENDED DURING COVID-19 OUTBREAK
The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan is not accepting volunteers during the COVID-19 outbreak. Many of our agency partners are still taking volunteers to help with mobile food distributions. Contact local churches and food pantries directly to inquire about their needs. We will provide updates or changes to this policy as they develop.
The Impact of Volunteers
Volunteer experiences are available at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan year-round, Monday-Saturday. We accommodate everyone ranging from individuals to large groups from businesses and community organizations interested in giving back to the community. Each year, nearly 7,000 people volunteer at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. In just one hour, a single volunteer sorts enough food to feed 355 people!
Volunteers are critical to our mission – THANK YOU for helping us feed the hungry in our communities!
Volunteers must be 12 or older; those under 18 need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone. Closed-toed shoes are required and sneakers or boots are recommend. No slip-on or open-toed shoes are permitted in the warehouse. Clothing should fit comfortably, allowing volunteers to move freely. Tank tops, mid-driff baring shirts, and low-cut tops are not permitted. Temperature in the warehouse varies, so layers are recommended. For more information, view our volunteer handbook below.
