For the second straight year, legendary band Metallica has put out a call to action to volunteer.
The second annual All Within My Hands Day of Service is on Wednesday, May 22. Locally, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and 103.9 The Fox are partnering to encourage people to volunteer for shifts sorting food in our Hunger Solution Center. Volunteers can register through the Food Bank’s website by following this link, filling out our volunteer application (if you are a first-time Food Bank volunteer), and selecting a time between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on May 22.
“In just one hour, a single volunteer can sort enough food for 355 people,” said Kara Ross, President and CEO of the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. “We wouldn’t be able to serve the more than 330,000 people in need in our 22 counties in Michigan without the contributions of our volunteers. We are excited that Metallica continues to advocate for volunteerism, and we are hoping to see many new and familiar faces volunteering at the Food Bank on May 22.”
The Food Bank’s goal is to have more than 100 volunteers in the Hunger Solution Center, located at 1938 Howard Avenue in Flint, on May 22. Volunteers will sort food so that it can be packed and distributed to the Food Bank’s more than 700 Hunger Relief Partners in Michigan.
The event will also be supported by 103.9 The Fox, with personalities from the station broadcasting from the Food Bank throughout the day. Here is the schedule:
- Roy Moore, 8:30-9:30 a.m.
- Johnny Burke, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
- Jeremy Fenech, 1 p.m.
- Amie Burke, 3 p.m.
Volunteer shifts are available Monday-Saturday at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, and the Hunger Solution Center can accommodate up to 100 volunteers at a time. More information is available online, including our volunteer handbook.
