ABC12 and the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan have come together again for an epic fundraiser … now with a new format!
What?: Participating schools collect non-perishable food items, personal care items, and monetary donations throughout the school year, and donate it to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. The Food Bank keeps a running total as collections grow throughout the school year, until May 3. The school with the most donated will be awarded the Spirit Cup! Any school that has raised 10,000 pounds or more will be invited to the big finale show on May 10. Detailed information about the program and how to participate is available on this fact sheet.
Who?: The show and the fundraising are all about the kids! We encourage you to put them in charge of collecting food and fundraising. School groups and teams can compete against each other to raise the most food. Have students go out and engage the community by asking local groups and businesses to host food drives and fund collections in your school’s name. For more tips on hosting a successful drive, email Katie Howicz at email@example.com.
Why?: The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan wants to encourage community engagement among our youth while continuing our mission to feed those in need in 22 counties, from Cheboygan to St. Clair. ABC12 wants to showcase what makes your school special. This year’s show has a brand new format that gives those unique details a spotlight, while encouraging your students to show leadership in the community and displaying those accomplishments on live TV and social media. Examples of these fun, compelling, and energetic news segments are available on ABC12’s website.
Where?: On your scheduled week, ABC12 will come to your school on Monday to film three stories that feature unique attributes of your school. Then on Friday, there will be a live morning news show at your school, where you will show off your donations, your students, and the pride you have in everyone’s accomplishments!
